EvodiaBio was established as a commercial company in 2021 rooted in research conducted by three of its co-founders at the University of Copenhagen.

 

Our drive is to create a better future for our planet by re-inventing aromatic compounds and eliminate the need for extracting aromas from plants or synthesizing them using petrochemicals, harmful catalysts and solvents.

We started looking for a way to produce the molecules ourselves, naturally – and we succeeded. We have made a ground-breaking reinvention of the production of natural aroma that can completely replace the need for harvested aromatic compounds.

The long-term aspiration is being able to supply the market with aroma for everything … and that journey starts with Yops™.

‘Evodia’ is Greek for ‘pleasant scent’ – a name which links to the inspirational legacy of the Greek grandmother of one of our founders, who used herbs for food and medicinal purposes.

Our endgame is to create a sustainable future where everyone can enjoy great taste and smell without depleting natural resources.

Biotech-selskab henter millioninvestering til at revolutionere markedet for bæredygtige aromaer med ny banebrydende teknologi

Den danske startup EvodiaBio rejser en investering på 50 millioner kroner fra udenlandske og danske investeringsfonde blandt andet EIFO og March Group. Den friske kapital skal bruges til både kommercialiseringen og ekspansion.

Det er en ny banebrydende og bæredygtig metode til at producere naturlige aromaer, der er grundstenen i EvodiaBios teknologi. Den kan forbedre smagen af alkoholfri øl, mens forbruget af naturens ressourcer og CO2-udledningen mindskes.

Med ekstra kapital i ryggen går selskabet målrettet efter at blive globalt førende indenfor bæredygtig aromaudvikling til fødevareindustrien.

 Naturlige og bæredygtige aromaer gennem præcisionsfermentering

Humle er en af de ingredienser, der giver den gode smag til øl, men ligesom flere af naturens andre ressourcer, er den velduftende plante truet af klimaforandringer. Produktionen falder, og kvaliteten daler. EvodiaBio har ved hjælp af gær og præcisionsfermentering udviklet en teknologi, der kan fremstille bæredygtige aromaer, som skaber smagen af humle.

Disse aromaer lanceres først til øl industrien, hvor de kan forbedre smagen af alkoholfri øl samt delvist erstatte aromahumle, der lige nu er truet af klimaforandringer.

Stor interesse fra bryggerierne

Selskabet oplever stor interesse fra bryggerierne, og mulighederne strækker sig længere end de alkoholfri produkter. Med frisk kapitaltilførsel kan der sættes skub på kommercialiseringen og ekspansionen, og på sigt vil EvodiaBio forbedre smagen i flere typer drikkevarer og andre fødevareprodukter.

Bag den danske startup med de høje ambitioner står en stærk bestyrelse med store profiler som Flemming Besenbacher, tidligere formand for Carlsberg, Andreas Fibig, tidligere CEO for IFF og Anne Cabotin, tidligere SVP i Symrise.

EvodiaBio, der blev grundlagt for kun tre år siden, støttes af et stærkt internationalt syndikat af investorer bestående af Nordic Foodtech VC, det tyske smagshus Symrise, PINC – Pauligs venture arm, Thia Ventures VC, Newtree Impact, Ananke Ventures Limited, EIFO og March Group. EvodiaBio, der blev stiftet for kun tre år siden, modtog i det tidlige stadie 14 millioner kroner i finansiel støtte fra danske BioInnovation Institute, der er stiftet af Novo Nordisk Fonden.

Hos statens investeringsfond ser man stort potentiale i selskaber, der arbejder for grøn omstilling.

Yops™ has been tested by a professional beer testing panel at NIRAS

Our first Yops™ floral blend has been tested on a commercial non-alcoholic beer with great results.

The evaluation was done by NIRAS, one of the top beer sensory panels in Europe.

 

NIRAS professional beer panel evaluated commercial non-alcoholic beer and commercial non-alcoholic beer after the addition of the Yops™ floral aroma.

 

The result showed a remarkable improvement in beer quality upon addition of Yops™.

 

The overall score improved from satisfactory to good, bringing the Yops™-containing beer at the high-end part of the distribution of 7,000 different non-alcoholic and alcoholic beers assessed from the same panel.

 

The panel also reported a clear enhancement of hoppy flavors, together with a decrease in worthy and grainy off-flavors. We are very happy about these results as it shows the Yops™ aroma does exactly what it is designed to do.
